Global Campaign on Military Spending 2017 @ National

 GDAMS card17GCOMS 2017 will run from 20 April  to 23 April – we hope this may give an opportunity to spread actions and events into the week-end.

A great opportunity to raise the issue of military spending – asking the question, “does it make us safer”.  Help others to think about this with a stall in your town centre or church.  Highlight the opportunities that are lost when governments spend money on the military rather than on health, education, development, climate change and more…

Nonviolence: the witness of Oscar Romero and the Catholic Nonviolence Iitiative @ Oxford Place Methodist Church

Romero-300x180Bishop Kevin Dowling was elected to the Pax Christi International board in 2004 and became Co-President in 2010, bringing with him a wealth of experience in working for human rights and social justice.

Bishop Kevin will  speak on the nonviolent witness of Archbishop Oscar Romero and its message for us today. Bishop Kevin has  been present at various Romero commemorations in El Salvador and supports the work of the  Romero Trust.

Pat Gaffney has been General Secretary of Pax Christi UK since 1990. She is a member of the international working group that initiated the Catholic Nonviolence Initiative and helped facilitate the Rome Conference. She has spoken at innumerable conferences and been an outstanding contributor to peace work both here in the UK and internationally.

This event has been organised with the support of both Pax Christi and the Archbishop Romero Trust.

Revitalising the tools of active nonviolence,Liverpool @ Cenacle Retreat House

A  one day event led by Pat Gaffney of Pax Christi  introducing the work of the newly formed Catholic
Nonviolence Initiative of which Pax Christi is a founder member.  This new initiative helped to shape the 2017 World Peace Day message, Nonviolence, a style of politics for peace.

Journey to Justice through Peace & Nonviolence @ Aylesford Priory

Pat Gaffney of Pax Christi will be the key-note speaker, reflecting on the role  of nonviolence in securing peace and justice and the work of the Catholic Nonviolence Initiative.  Workshops from Michael and Patricia Pulham, Christian  CND.  All welcome

Nuclear Ban Treaty Negotiations open again @ United Nations Building

negoWe need to help raise awareness that these meetings are happening and that a draft treaty is ready to be supported!  See more background here and write to your MP asking why the UK is NOT taking part.  Write to your local paper about this global opportunity to get rid of nuclear weapons.  Tell your friends that this is happening – a sign of hope in our world!

Reclaiming Gospel Nonviolence: Perth, Scotland @ St Mary's Monastery

Kinnoull flyer imageThis joint project organised by Fellowship of Reconciliation, The Church of Scotland, Anglican Pacifist Fellowship, Justice & Peace Scotland , the Scottish Episcopal Church and Pax Christi, will look at ways in which Christians and other faith communities are developing nonviolence as a way forward and explore how Christians  in Scotland can embrace Gospel nonviolence at personal, church and society levels.  It takes inspiration from the Catholic Nonviolence Initiative which is helping to shape thinking within the Catholic Church in cooperation with the Vatican.

Hiroshima commemorations @ Westminster Cathedral Piazza

Every year we have a stall, vigil and time of prayer to commemorate the bombing of Hiroshima.  Join us, help give out leaflets, talk with people about what is happening today to ban nuclear weapons, pray with us.  Prayer times at 11.30 and 3.30. Leaflet here

Annual event of the Lord Mayor’s Committee for Peace and Reconciliation.  Led by John Witcombe, Dean of Coventry Cathedral.  Speaker Ruth Longoni, Lord Mayor’s Peace Committee and representatives  from the Embassy of Japan.

Service of reflection, music, religious and secular readings and silence.  All welcome
