Organised by Church and Peace: ‘And they shall live secure’ (Micah 5,4) Theological reflection and workshops on the Church as an agent for peace in an increasingly insecure world.  Keynote speaker: Simon Barrow of Ekklesia.  There will be a panel  with Pat Gaffney of Pax Christi, Alan Pleydell (Quaker), Pat Nimmo (URC minister), Trevor Williams (former leader of the Corrymeela Community) and Paul Maxwell-Rose (Christian International Peace Service.

Day of prayer for peace for Syria

The people of Syria are suffering. Countless thousands have been killed. Millions more have been forced to flee their homes. Across the world, Catholics and Christians from other traditions will hold vigils on 31 October as part of a global day of prayer for peace called by Pope Francis while he is visiting the Lutheran church in Sweden.

We invite our members and supporters to do whatever they can in parishes, schools, communities.  Resources can be found here 

There will be vigils at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Russian Embassy between 4 – 5 pm in London on 31 October supported by Pax Christi and CAFOD

Fr Rodolfo Cardenal is a Central American Jesuit and Director of the Monseñor Romero Centre at the UCA, the Jesuit University in El Salvador. He is a surviving colleague of the six Jesuit martyrs killed on the UCA campus in 1989 at the height of El Salvador’s civil war. He is a historian and has written the biography of his Jesuit confrére, Fr Rutilio Grande, assassinated in March 1977 and now on the road to beatification.  Rodolfo has chaired the History Commission which documented Rutilio’s story for the beatification cause.

Pat Gaffney of Pax Christi will speak in the morning session on the gathering in Rome organised by Pax Christi and the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace.  More here about the Catholic Nonviolence Initiative 

The day also provides an opportunity for networking across Diocese and between catholic agencies working on social justice and peace issues.
