Quaker Council for European Affairs is holding an event entitled “Europe’s Military Drift: From a Soft Power Union to ‘Security Provider'” taking place in a week’s time – on 24 May at 19:00 CET / 18:00 BST.
It will be discuss Europe’s place in the world as it rapidly transforms into a hard power, exercising influence through military means. It will reflect on whether this increased militarization can be reconciled with its intended purpose to serve peace worldwide. Will it undermine diplomacy efforts and erode the credibility of the EU as a mediator in international conflicts? Will it further divert resources from peacebuilding approaches to militaristic ones?
