Peace, Power, and Protest: Prophets for a New World

Our friends at the Student Christian Movement and Fellowship of Reconciliation are holding a joint annual conference, Peace, Power, and Protest: Prophets for a New World.

The conference takes place over the weekend of 14-16 February at The Hayes conference centre in Swanwick. The them of the conference is peace.

It offers a chance to reflect on what Jesus meant by peace, how we can bring healing and reconciliation to our communities and how faith can speak truth to power. A conference for anyone interested in faith, spirituality, peace and justice.

Matt, Pax Christi’s education worker, is facilitating a workshop at this event and the Pax Christi Icon of Peace will be a prayer focus throughout the weekend.

Special Early Bird ticket cost just £50 (before 31st December). £60 full price ticket.

Peace Education and the Centenary of World War One

Peace Education Network LogoThe next Peace Education Network Skills Share Workshop will be on Thursday 14 November from 5pm – 7pm, at Friends House, Euston, London and will explore Peace Education and the Centenary of World War One

In this workshop Don Rowe, formerly Director of Curriculum Resources for the Citizenship Foundation, will introduce participants to materials being developed for both primary and secondary schools in relation to the centenary commemoration of World War One.

Don will encourage participants to explore the issues of bias (being non-partisan), how to develop student’s capacity for moral reasoning and empathy development, as well as overcoming resistance to ‘moral messages.’

For many years Don has written extensively about the issues facing teachers tackling controversial issues in the classroom and this workshop will draw upon this experience.
