Each year on Ash Wednesday Pax Christi and other Christian peace activists organise a prayer vigil of repentance and resistance to nuclear war preparations outside the Ministry of Defence. It’s a beautiful and thought-provoking service, involving prayer, song and symbolic actions. This usually includes an act of nonviolent civil disobedience – those involved in this prepare beforehand together – so don’t worry we will not be asking you to take part in this way.
Since Ash Wednesday this year falls during the half term break (18 February) we think it’s a good opportunity to encourage educators (teachers, catechists, youth workers and others) to join the service and then reflect on it together.
We will gather beforehand (2 pm) for a briefing so everyone knows what to expect, join in the prayer vigil (3 – 4.30) and then heading somewhere warm for a cup of tea and a opportunity to reflect on what we have experienced (finishing around 5.30).
There is a brief report on the 2014 vigil here
This is a joint event by Pax Christi and Columban Justice and Peace Education. Please let James or Matt if you are interested and we will tell you more. Don’t hesitate to ask if you’ve got questions.
