The Shrine ranks as a Major Marian Shrine because, 100 years ago in May, Benedict XV approved a new title for Our Lady and attached indulgences to her shrine, including a Plenary Indulgence. Livestreamed gathering for hymns and prayers, ending with the 5.30pm parish Mass.
It’s not generally known that this shrine owes its recognition to Benedict XV who was impressed with the welcome given to refugees during WW1. Having been appalled by the ravages of war, he attached a plenary indulgence for those who visit and pray for peace among the nations of Europe
Phil Kerton will talk about the unusual history of the beautiful thatched church and the shrine, and Dr Anne Inman will speak on “Praying the Hail Mary – How to honour Mary without diminishing her humanity”
