Pax Christi members from around the country came to London on Saturday to help us ‘Wrap up Trident’ and send a clear message to all that nuclear weapons have no place in our society. We gathered for prayer in St Martin-in-the-Fields which was organised by our friends in Christian CND, joined by Anglican Paficist Fellowship. Methodist Peace Fellowship and Quakers. Before setting off to join the main gathering we held a vigil on the steps of St Martins and read statements from all the churches denouncing the use and possession of nuclear weapons.

We are thrilled with the responses we are receiving from the celebration of Peace Sunday on 18 January. Members and supporters have been sending us reports and photographs and all week donations from parishes have started arriving in the post.
It is not too late to send us your report of the week and we will post it with the others. These will give us ideas and encouragement in planning for Peace Sunday 2016!

Pax Christi International is following attentively the situation of crisis in the eastern regions of Ukraine. Given the recent escalation of conflict that claimed many victims,
Pax Christi International renewed its appeal for peace and for a negotiated solution. The movement supports the agreement reached through diplomatic efforts on 11 and 12 February 2015 in Minsk, Belarus. The ceasefire agreement should be implemented by Sunday 15 February 2015 at the latest and monitored directly. While significant work is yet to be done, this at least begins a process toward increased security, law and order.

Each year on Ash Wednesday Pax Christi and other Christian peace activists organise a prayer vigil of repentance and resistance to nuclear war preparations outside the Ministry of Defence. It’s a beautiful and thought-provoking service, involving prayer, song and symbolic actions. This usually includes an act of nonviolent civil disobedience – those involved in this prepare beforehand together – so don’t worry we will not be asking you to take part in this way.
Since Ash Wednesday this year falls during the half term break (18 February) we think it’s a good opportunity to encourage educators (teachers, catechists, youth workers and others) to join the service and then reflect on it together.
We will gather beforehand (2 pm) for a briefing so everyone knows what to expect, join in the prayer vigil (3 – 4.30) and then heading somewhere warm for a cup of tea and a opportunity to reflect on what we have experienced (finishing around 5.30).
